Go Bananas: Choc-Banana Bites

I love to bake. Baking means I get to express my creativity side. Until I really sat down and evaluated my values and beliefs, I was adamant that I was not creative. But I'll let you in on a little secret... Everyone is creative!

While creativity for some people means painting, drawing and creating wonderful arts and crafts, for others it means a completely different thing. This is true for me and my son Levi. Creativity is about bringing possibilities in to the light to entertain people, communicate to others and solve problems. My son may not be excited about sitting down and drawing at the table, but he really enjoys it when I bring him in to the kitchen and we create food together!

Small acts of creativity in your day can increase your overall sense of wellbeing and promote positive emotions. So, this recipe is all about family involvement and bringing the kids in to the kitchen to express their creativity. It's also about letting go as a parent and going with the flow. Enjoy the moment. Get a bit messy... Go bananas!

Choc-Banana Snack Bites are easy to make, require little ingredients and are kid-friendly. Get them involved to crush some rocks (nuts), toss the bananas in snow (coconut) and, of course, help clean up after ;)

Ingredients

  • 2 large bananas

  • 200g dark cooking chocolate

  • Topping ideas: desiccated coconut, crushed walnuts, sprinkles

Method

  1. Slice bananas in to 1-2cm wide pieces, line in a sealed container and freeze for at least an hour

  2. Place topping choices in separate bowls, or use a muffin pan (as shown above)

  3. Melt chocolate in the microwave or double boiler

  4. Use a spoon or skewer to dip frozen banana pieces in to chocolate to fully coat.

  5. Immediately coat with chosen toppings. Have fun doing so; throw them in 'snow', dunk in 'rocks'!

  6. Place on aluminum foil in a sealed container, place back in freezer to store.
